Ivan 'Jack' Compton

[November 19, 2010]  ATLANTA -- Ivan Wayne "Jack" Compton, 87, of Atlanta, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at 6:37 a.m. at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Following the visitation, there will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta, with Maurice Stribling officiating.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

Mr. Compton had been employed for many years at the Diamond Shamrock fertilizer plant in Atlanta. He also farmed and was a truck driver.

He was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Greenup. His parents were Claude and Rena Weatherholt Compton. He married Dorothy Hacker on March 11, 1944. She preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1997.

He is survived by his children, Jackie (and James) McKown, Vicki (and Ken) Martin and Bruce "Buster" (and Teresa) Compton, all of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Anne (and Coy) Hutchcraft, Jack McKown, Kelly Liembach, Katy Martin, Brandon (and Macaela) Compton and Kelly Riordan; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Orville "Speed" (and Joyce) Compton.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Clinton A. Martin, and one sister.

He was a member of Atlanta Masonic Lodge 165 AF & AM, Lions Club and the Country-Aire Coffee Club.

He graduated from Atlanta High School.

Memorials may be made to Atlanta Rescue Squad or Atlanta Museum.
