InsuranceA northward movement was expected initially across north-central Texas and into southwestern Oklahoma by late Wednesday, gradually turning northeastward Thursday as it pushed through the central Plains. The main threat from Hermine would be locally heavy rainfall across portions of central and eastern Texas and Oklahoma, spreading northward into portions of Kansas and Missouri by Thursday. The heavy rainfall could lead to life-threatening flash floods. Total rainfall accumulations were expected from 4 to 6 inches with possible isolated maximum amounts of 12 inches.

Moving northward, a large low pressure system over eastern Canada with associated cold front extending from New England southwestward to the Mid-Atlantic and Tennessee Valley would move eastward and southward across the eastern and southern U.S. on Wednesday and Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms were expected along its path across the lower Great Lakes, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Tennessee Valley and the Gulf states.

Out West, an unseasonably cold trough of low pressure would deepen further Wednesday, bringing well below normal temperatures. In addition, scattered rain showers were expected over parts of the Northwest and northern California into the northern Intermountain West. Monsoonal thunderstorms were expected over parts of the Four Corners.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 18 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont., to a high of 114 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
