LINCOLN -- Betty Lee Snyder Smith, 86,
a lifelong resident of Lincoln, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011. |
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First
United Methodist Church, 302 Broadway St. in
Lincoln.
Her preferred occupation was mother and
homemaker. Once she had grandsons, they named her
Nana, and she relished that role. She also worked in
the cafeteria at Lincoln High School and then at
Lehn & Fink.
She was born on May 3, 1925, in Lincoln to Adam
and Ella Rohrer Snyder. She graduated from Lincoln
High School in 1943 and then worked at Clapper's
Tire and Appliance, where she met George W. Smith.
They were married over their lunch hour on Aug. 25,
1947.
She is survived by her three children: Terri
Carey (and Daniel) of Madison, Wis., and grandsons
Christopher and Matthew; Michael Smith of Ogden,
Utah, and grandson Michael Bryan; and Mary Ellen
Smith of San Antonio, Texas. Her surviving siblings
are Melvin "Buck" Snyder (and Lois), Kenneth "Dutch"
Snyder (and Myra) and Patricia Snyder of Lincoln,
and Tony Snyder (and Mary) of Metamora.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George
"Smitty" Smith; two sisters, Eleanor Pence and
Ethelene "Peggy" White; and one brother, Robert
Snyder. |
She was an active member of the First United
Methodist Church in Lincoln, and up until
mid-December she helped put together the church
bulletins every week. She was one of the founding
volunteers working at the Lincoln/Logan Food Pantry
and was a lifetime member of the Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Memorials may be made to Lincoln/Logan Food
Pantry or the First United Methodist Church in
Lincoln.
