Harold Leroy Radcliffe

LINCOLN -- Harold Leroy Radcliffe, 76,
of Lincoln, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at 4:13 p.m. at Memorial
Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral
will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with
Ron Otto officiating |
Burial will be in Steenbergen Cemetery, Mount
Pulaski, where military rites will be conducted by
American Legion Post 263.
Mr. Radcliffe retired from the Saint-Gobain
bottle factory in Lincoln after 43 years of
employment there.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.
He was born June 5, 1934, in Vandalia. His
parents were Clyde and Anice Manion Radcliffe. He
married Barbara Jean Wilham on Oct. 14, 1955, in
Lincoln.
He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; three
daughters, Denise Radcliffe of Lincoln, Janice (and
Jim) Greer of Lincoln and Cindy Morrow (and Jerry
Miller) of Lincoln; and two granddaughters, Meghan
and Marissa Greer.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers,
Virgil and Paul Radcliffe; two sisters, Arvetta
Taylor and Frances Metz; and an infant son, Curt
Leroy.
He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.
He was on the firing squad for American Legion
Post 263 and was an active member.
He was one of the first coaches for Lincoln Youth
Football and helped get it started.
Woodworking was Leroy's favorite pastime. He
loved traveling and photography. He enjoyed playing
golf and telling a joke, whether it was at the
Lincoln Elks or in Florida. |
He loved all sports and was always watching a game,
especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a
dedicated Cardinal fan but said he wanted to see the
Chicago Cubs win the World Series just once to see
how crazy the Cub fans got.
He graduated from Lincoln Community High School
in 1954. He was called "Crazy Legs" Radcliffe in
football and went to state in track.
His family says, "We will miss him terribly, but
we know he is in heaven enjoying the new year with
family and friends."
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
Lincoln Christian Church, American Legion Post 263
or LCHS Lady Railer softball.
