LINCOLN -- Ruth Marie Bratcher Haak,
84, of Lincoln, died quietly Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at Memorial
Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. An AMVETS
service will follow at 4 p.m.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Immanuel
Lutheran Church, Lincoln, with the Rev. Andrew Nyren
officiating. |
Mrs. Haak was a devoted advocate for veterans. She
was office manager for Barrick Transfer Company in
Lincoln for 25 years and then served 32 years as
executive secretary for the Illinois AMVETS Ladies'
Auxiliary.
She was born Jan. 30, 1926, to Alton Bratcher and
Ruth Bratcher (Brave). She married Arnold Haak on
Jan. 15, 1944.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 67
years; two sons, William (and Rhonda) Haak of
Lincoln and Michael (and Nancy) Haak of McLean; and
grandchildren Jeff of Chatham, Angie, Felicia of
Charleston, S.C., and Casey of McLean.
She was a life member of the auxiliaries to the
AMVETS, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion
and Disabled American Veterans posts in Lincoln. In
the AMVETS Auxiliary, she had served in every office
in local Post 71, many more at the division level
and in many chairmanships at the state level. In
recent years, she was a driving force in the
memorial brick project at All Veterans Park, at
College Avenue and Union Street in Lincoln. |
She also served 16 years as treasurer of the New
Salem Property Owners' Association, where she and
Arnold had a campsite.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois AMVETS
Auxiliary Scholarship Fund.
