Rev. William Adam

[January 25, 2011]  LINCOLN -- The Rev. William Walter Adam, 88, of Lincoln, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at 7:20 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Mark Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Pastor Adam was a retired minister. He served in Australia from 1959 to 1966 and then served parishes in Auburn, Clayton, Mount Sterling and Lincoln from 1966 to 2005.

He was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Franklin County, Neb. His parents were Walter and Marie Frerichs Adam. He married Ruth Fricke on June 6, 1959, in Petersburg. She died Dec. 22, 2007.

He is survived by one son, Philip (and Kathy) Adam of Plymouth, Minn.; one daughter, Laura Ann Adam of Cypress, Texas; two grandchildren, David and Marie Adam of Plymouth, Minn.; two brothers, Elmer Adam of Franklin, Neb., and Fred (and Marian) Adam of Wilcox, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Jonathan, and one brother, Robert Adam.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln.

He was baptized in his parents' home on Dec. 6, 1922, and confessed his faith in the rite of confirmation at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bloomington, Neb., on April 17, 1938. His confirmation verse was Hebrews 13:5.

Funeral Director

After attending two semesters of college, he was drafted into the Army in 1945 and served with the 970th Counter Intelligence Corps in Germany. After discharge he entered Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, in September 1953. He graduated from the seminary on June 3, 1959.
