ST. PARIS, Ohio -- Donald Marion
Detwiler, 87, of St. Paris, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 5:25
a.m. at the Mercy McAuley Center in Urbana, Ohio. |
Visitation for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m.
Friday at the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S.
Springfield St. in St. Paris. His funeral Mass
will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, 121 E. Walnut St. in St. Paris,
with Father Greg Konerman officiating.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, with
military honors by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad
of Piqua.
Mr. Detwiler worked as a toolmaker for WB Marvin
in Urbana, Ohio, before retiring in 1988.
He served in the U.S. Army twice during World War
II.
He was born on March 8, 1924, in Urbana, Ohio, a
son of the late Marion H. and Bertha E. Hoffman
Detwiler. He met Adele A. Aizza while serving in the
military, and they were married on June 5, 1948, in
Cassegliano, Italy. They spent the next 63 years in
St. Paris.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Kathryn Sapp
of St. Paris and Pat (and Eddie) Hickey of
Lincoln, Ill.; one brother, Richard (and Jane) Detwiler of Urbana, Ohio; and several nephews and
nieces, including Debbie Ackerman of Lincoln, Ill.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter,
Doris Marie Detwiler; a sister, Doris L. Detwiler;
and two brothers, John and Tom Detwiler.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church
in St. Paris and a former member of Philip Grieser
Memorial VFW Post 7645. |
