MULBERRY GROVE -- Nelda L. Hopkins, 92,
of Mulberry Grove, died Monday, July 18, 2011, at St. John's
Hospital in Springfield.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the First
Baptist Church in Mulberry Grove. Her funeral will
be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev.
Benjamin Potter and the Rev. Kenneth Hall
officiating.
Interment will follow in Taylor
Cemetery. |

Grove is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hopkins and her husband lived various places
in central Illinois as they followed his job with
Marathon Oil Co. She worked in food service for the
Champaign school districts and for the S&H Green
Stamp store in Champaign. After his retirement on
March 14, 1983, they moved back home near Pittsburg
and lived in Mulberry Grove.
Nelda, daughter of Clarence and Mable Rench
Eller, was born April 17, 1919, in Pittsburg, Ill.
She grew up in the area and attended the local grade
schools. She married Elbert Joseph Hopkins on Sept.
5, 1936, in Pittsburg. They enjoyed 56 years
together before he died on Jan. 6, 1993.
She is survived by one son, Charles Hopkins and
wife Loretta of Davenport, Fla.; three daughters,
Janet Holmes of Lincoln, Sue Snodgrass and husband
David of Ferdinand, Idaho, and Cheri Spies and
husband Vernie of Greenville; a daughter-in-law,
Linda Hopkins of Decatur; 12 grandchildren; 20
great-grandchildren, and one sister, Norma Jean
Waddelow of Pana.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Gary
Hopkins; brothers Jack, John, Wayne, Byrl and two
brothers in infancy; and sisters Ethel Dugan and
Opal Siebert.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church
in Mulberry.
