Everett 'Leon' Renfrow

ATLANTA -- Everett "Leon" Renfrow, 84,
of Atlanta, died Monday, July 18, 2011, at 8 p.m. at OSF Saint
Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home in Atlanta. His memorial service will
be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Randy
Unger will officiate. |
Cremation rites have been
accorded, and inurnment will be in Zion Cemetery,
Lincoln.
Mr. Renfrow spent his life farming in Eminence
Township and worked at Pittsburg Paint & Glass in
Lincoln.
He served in the U.S. Army from May 1945 through
October 1947 on the islands of Guam and Saipan.
He was born on June 19, 1927, in Louisville, Ky.
His parents were Taplia Marion and Marie Birkley
Renfrow. He married Margaret Van Hoorn on July 13,
1946, in Hartsburg. They had been married nearly 64
years when she died on June 3, 2010.
He is survived by two daughters, Connie (and Tom)
Wertheim of Atlanta and Linda (and Kim) Shepherd of
Normal; two sisters, Dorothy Clenin of Hopedale and
Marian Thompson of Atlanta; eight grandchildren, Amy
Wertheim, Greg Wertheim, Julie (and Erin) Mulliken,
Jeff Doss, Joel Doss, Jeanene (and Trent) Gilbert,
Chris Shepherd and Lindsey Shepherd; seven
great-grandchildren, Nicholas Flach, Annika
Wertheim, Skyler Doss, Anthony Cheek, Faith Cheek,
Andrew Cheek and Dustin Cheek; one
step-great-granddaughter, Korri Gilbert; and many
nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter,
Beverly Jean Cruz; two brothers, Taplia "Junior"
Renfrow and James Renfrow; and two sisters, Lucy
Boyer and Helen Hayes. Leon was a member of American Legion 341 and the
Atlanta Veterans of Foreign Wars. |
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's
Research or Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
