The
"Mother Road" has a strong influence on tourism. Tourism
director Geoff Ladd tells the story of The Mill to a group from
the Toledo, Ohio, area touring Route 66.
On Saturday, members of the Route 66 Association of Illinois will gather at Lincoln College for their
annual banquet, adding more dollars into our local economy.

The
Original Farmers’ Market in Latham Park has begun its summer
market season. After being plagued with rain for a few Saturdays, all the regulars made it to
the park last weekend for the first time for a morning of selling their wares and visiting with
shoppers.
As the season progresses, more vendors will join in on the
market as their garden produce becomes ready for harvest.

atherine Hess, chief curator of
European art, stands next to a bust of George Washington, newly
cleaned and analyzed, at The Huntington Library, Art
Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino., Calif., on Wednesday. Hess says the 1832-dated bust by French
artist David D'Angers was a gift to the United States from France
and was said to have been displayed at the Library of Congress until
a devastating fire in 1851.
