Hartsburg-Emden FFA
members attended the 2011 Illinois FFA State Convention at the Prairie
Capital Convention Center in Springfield June 14, 15 and 16. |
The Hartem FFA received a Gold Emblem
award for this past year's activities. The chapter also was recognized with a
Century Award for having every agriculture student as an FFA member and received
the Sweepstakes Award for participating in all major FFA award areas. Kelsi
Ubbenga was recognized as a Silver Emblem chapter president, and she also
received the State FFA Degree.
The Illinois FFA Foundation recognized the Hartem FFA for collecting over
$3,000 in the 2010 foundation drive.
Over 3,000 FFA members, guests and parents attended the convention. Attendees
took in the career show, listened to addresses from retiring state FFA officers
and got to see the state winners in record bookkeeping areas.

Hannah Allen, of Mount Pulaski, was recognized as one of 25 members of
the Class of 2011 "We Understand" Agriculture Scholars at a scholarship luncheon
at Farm Credit Services of Illinois in Mahomet on Thursday, June 2. Each scholar
receives $1,000 from Farm Credit toward their agriculture-related college
education. Recipients were selected from 114 applicants from throughout central
and southern Illinois by a panel of judges from the agriculture industry.
Hannah will be studying food science at the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign this fall. She hopes to pursue a career as a food scientist in
central Illinois.
Hannah is the daughter of Ralph and Lori Allen.

Come
watch the fireworks on the Fourth of July from the lawn of
Immanuel Lutheran Church. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the
evening. Restrooms will be available.
There will be ice cream for sale starting at 6 p.m.
The Immanuel Lutheran youth will sell drinks and hand out free
popcorn starting at 7 p.m.
Lesleigh Bennett will entertain starting at 8 p.m.
The women of Immanuel will have their annual bake sale starting
at dark. Proceeds from the sale will be used to help with church
projects. The Logan County chapter of Thrivent Financial for
Lutherans will provide additional funding.
