The
first gas theft was reported on March 14 in the 1700 block of
Tremont Street. The second theft was reported on March 22 in the
1200 block of North Ottawa. The vehicles were parked in the
driveways of the residences. According to police, the suspect or
suspects drilled a hole in the bottom of the gas tanks and drained
the gasoline from the vehicles. This is a very dangerous method of
obtaining gasoline from the vehicle as a small spark could ignite
the gasoline, causing a fire or explosion.
Two more incidents of stolen gas from drilled gas tanks were
reported on March 24. Those were in the 200 block of Oglesby Avenue
and the 200 block of 10th Street.
