[March 30, 2011]  The Lady Lynx softball team swept Millikin University's JV team Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader at home. In both games, a strength for LC was aggressive base-running and key hits with runners in scoring position.

HardwareIn the first game, LC jumped on top with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The final score was 7-6.

Shelbi Rentmeister (Clinton) had a complete game and came up with the win, allowing 12 hits, striking out five and walking none.

Lincoln College came up with 14 hits. Karla Shappell (Coal City) was 3-4, Heathre Depratt (Westville) 2-3 with a double, Danielle Stephenson (Campbell Hill) 2-4 with two doubles, Blake Walch (Barry) 2-4 with a double and Christi Dixon (Decatur) 3-3 with a double.

In the second game, the Lynx were aggressive offensively throughout. Although fighting from behind majority of the game, LC scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a base hit by pitcher Rentmeister. She came in relief for Jana Wright (Fairfield), who started the game for the Lynx and threw 5 1/2 innings.

Going into the bottom of the sixth inning, LC trailed 8-5 and Kristen Cooper (Hanna City) hit a three-run home run over the left-field fence, tying the game at 8-8. The Lynx held the Big Blue in the top of the seventh and came up with a huge run off Rentmeister's base hit to win the game. Rentmeister (3-4) picked up her second win on the day.

Final score was 9-8.

Other offensive standouts in the second game were Shappell going 2-4 with a double, Katie Kramer (Naperville) with a home run in the second inning, Rachel England (Maroa) 2-4 and Dixon 2-3.

The Lady Lynx now have a 6-10 overall record and 0-2 in the conference.

Coach Crystal Wurth commented: "The girls played as a team and with heart today. They were so excited to be playing at home for the first time this season. We had a great hitting day with a combined 26 hits. The girls are really talented, and when we can piece all aspects of the game together as we did today, we are going to come out on top. Shelbi Rentmeister had a big day today. I am so proud of her composure on the field. She had true sophomore leadership out there."

Lincoln College travels to Danville Area Community College on Thursday.
