[May 09, 2011]  LOS ANGELES (AP) -- John Walker, an American-born musician who was the frontman for one of the most successful bands of Britain's Golden Age of rock `n' roll, has died. He was 67.

Walker's personal assistant, Polly Klemmer, says he died Saturday at his Los Angeles home of liver cancer.

As the leader of the British-based Walker Brothers, Walker had a string of pop hits in both the United States and England in the 1960s, including "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore."

He returned to the United States in the 1980s, where he continued to perform and record.

Klemmer said Sunday that Walker's last performance was in March in Los Angeles. Until his illness, he had continued to tour regularly, especially in Britain, where he was most popular.
