Betty Slupianek

[October 29, 2011]  McLEAN -- Betty Slupianek, 86, of McLean, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at 7:18 a.m. at OSF St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Center, Bloomington, surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the McLean Christian Church. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with Pastor Tony Billingsley officiating.

Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery.

Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Slupianek was retired from Mennonite Hospital, where she had worked as a physical therapy assistant and a nursing assistant in long-term care.

She was born in Dewsbury, Thornhill Lees, England, on June 23, 1925, to Betty Child and Ottewell Clifford. She married Donald Slupianek on April 7, 1945, in Dewsbury, England.

She is survived by her husband; five children, Jennifer Isaacs (and Jack) of Farmer City, Joyce Moulton (and Jim) of East Peoria, Janet Hawkins (and Gary) of McLean and Ted Slupianek of Blandinsville and Tom Slupianek (and Sue) of Peru; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Betty met the love and best friend of her life, Donald, while she was a Lumber Jill in the

Women's Timber Corps in England during World War II. She made her life with him and they eventually settled in McLean

She was a member of the McLean Christian Church, Mount Hope Ladies Aid and formerly served as a volunteer grandparent at the McLean Elementary School. She loved music.

Betty touched many lives during her years of employment and her subsequent years of retirement. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor. She served as a role model to all the people whose lives she touched. Betty never met a person she didn't like.
