Gene Ludden

[November 04, 2011]  ARMINGTON -- Gene Ludden, 84, of Springfield, formerly of Armington, died early Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Pastor Wayne Hoffman will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery, Armington.

Mr. Ludden was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria and Mossville for 35 years. After retiring on Sept. 1, 1982, and while still residing in Armington, Gene drove a We-Care-Van to transport Armington's elderly citizens to doctor appointments and on errands.

He served in the U.S. Navy after high school for the duration of World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1946. 

He was born March 13, 1927, in Bloomington. His parents were Arthur and Edna Hernan Ludden. He married Helen Bossingham on Aug. 14, 1951.

He is survived by his wife, of Springfield; one daughter, Valerie Jean (and Gary) Koch of Springfield; and two granddaughters, Laura Elizabeth Koch and Kimberly Nicole Koch, both of Chicago.

He was a member of the Armington Volunteer Fire Department and the Armington American Legion. After moving to Springfield with his wife in 1995, he became a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church there.

Gene enjoyed sports of all kinds, playing basketball in high school and baseball on community teams during his 20s. 

He graduated from Hittle Township High School in 1945.
