[November 09, 2011 Lincoln Community High School's building trades instructor, Justin Dietrich, is a hands-on teacher who isn't afraid to climb scaffolding, stack shingles, wield a hammer, position trusses and just plain get dirty on the job. Dietrich and his students are currently constructing the most recent in a long line of building trades houses scattered across the city of Lincoln.

Construction on the building trades house on North Sherman Street began in mid-September, after students had spent about three weeks of classroom time learning basic terminology and techniques. The trusses arrived in early October as the final rafters were going into place. A group effort was needed to lift the trusses and attach the hook so the section could be lifted to the roof and positioned.

An Ameren crew connected the electric line early in October, before it was needed inside the house.

With the main roof complete, students finished small areas under the eaves. The plan is to complete the exterior by Thanksgiving break.
