The
Wendlandt family won the Shoe Sensation grand prize yesterday.
Kelsey Wendlandt entered the drawing for free shoes for the
family, and her name was pulled from the hundreds submitted.

This
unusual photograph provided by NASA shows the re-entry plasma trail (center) of
the Progress 42P supply vehicle. The image was captured by one of the Expedition 29 crew
members aboard the International Space Station on Oct. 29, when the space station was
over the southern Pacific Ocean. Light from
the rising sun illuminates the curvature of the Earth limb (horizon line) at
top, but does not completely overwhelm the airglow visible at top left.
Airglow is caused by light emitted at specific wavelengths by atoms and
molecules excited by ultraviolet radiation in the upper atmosphere.
Reading to Romeo is
back this year at New Holland-Middletown Elementary.
Students in Mrs. Wankel's second grade read a story to Romeo the rabbit
during a special
reading time. Language arts teacher Diane Bicknell,
a member of the Humane Society of Logan County, uses her pet
rabbit to promote literacy and make reading fun for everyone.

In
this publicity image, Rose Leslie, left, and Siobhan Finneran are shown in a scene from "Downton Abbey," a four-part
drama about life in an English country estate. An abrupt ending with
several unanswered questions -- including whether the show was even
going to return -- led to angry phone calls from many "Downton Abbey"
fans, said Paula Kerger, PBS president. The first season was only
four episodes. The second season, set during World War I, contains
seven episodes and starts Jan. 8.
Kenny May, a graduate of Belleville East High School
and now a sophomore on the Lincoln
College baseball team, signed a letter of intent with Quincy
University on Wednesday. He was an all-conference and all-region
selection as a freshman last year and was one of the NJCAA players of the week. In 51 games, he hit .426 and had 28 RBIs. Not only did he play in the infield, he also pitched 23 innings with
a 1.14 ERA and 27 strikeouts.
