ILLIOPOLIS -- Dale Lee Davis 62, of
Illiopolis, died Friday Sept. 30, 2011, at his home, after a long
battle with brain cancer. His body is being donated to science. A
celebration of life will be held at later date. |
Dale was born Dec. 23, 1948, in Lincoln, Illinois.
The son of Mayford and Irene Davis . They precede
him in death. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran
Church.
Surviving are his wife Solange of 31 years and their
son Adam both of Illiopolis. Sons Brad (Jody
Stewart) and Bruce (Tara). Grandchildren Maddy,
Joey, Lane, and Wade Davis all of Mt Pulaski. Sister
Bette (Larry) Steffens and a brother Darrel, all of
Lincoln.
Dale was born and raised on a grain and dairy/beef
farm in Logan County. He graduated for Lincoln High
School and attended Lincoln College. Dale was state
president of the Illinois Jr. Shorthorn Breeders
Association and was on the formation committee of
the National Jr. Shorthorn Breeders Association.
Dale was a 4-H Key Club member, state
electrification award winner, state outstanding
member for 6 years. Federation president for 3
years. He won FFA section 14 electrification and
corn production awards.
Dale was a past member of the Logan County Young
Farmers, serving as president for 3 years. Was
runner-up in 1978 as the Illinois Farm Bureau's
Outstanding Young Farmer Award. Member of Logan
County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 6 years,
serving as vice president for 2 years. Dale was
honored by the Mt Pulaski FFA chapter for work done
in the community. Past member of the Mt.Pulaski
J.C.'s. Member of the FFA Alumni Association. Past
member of the Illinois Tractor Pulling Association.
Dale farmed with his brother in Logan County. He
also sold Hoblit seed corn. He then worked for the
Norris Farms in Havana as Crop Foreman for several
years. He moved to Missouri to work for Catton Farms
as the Business Manager for a 10,000 acre grain
farm. He later went to work for Dekalb at the
Foundation Plant at Illiopolis as Plant Foreman. In
1990 Dale started Davis Crop Consulting and became a
Dekalb dealer selling Dekalb and Asgrow seed. Dale
also started raising, and showing purebred Duroc
hogs, and raising beef cattle.

Dale was one of the 4-H leaders for the Illiopolis group for
several years. He served on the Sangamon-Menard Youth
Development Group. He was sheep superintendent and co-swine
superintendent for the Sangamon County 4-H fair. He was also
a member of the Illinois Duroc Breeders Association and the
Sangamon County Farm Bureau.
Dale was a proud supporter of the Sangamon Valley FFA and
the Storm football program.
Dale had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to follow U of
I basketball and football, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He
will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Sangamon Valley FFA,
Sangamon-Logan County 4-H, or Springfield Memorial Hospice.
