Rev. Arthur Goldberger

LINCOLN --
The Rev. Arthur J. Goldberger, 88, of Lincoln, died Friday, Oct. 7,
2011, at 3:30 p.m. at the Christian Nursing Home.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Thompson
officiating. |
Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, with military
honors.
The Rev. Goldberger was a retired Lutheran
minister. He had served at Zion Lutheran Church in
Lincoln as well as churches in Vandalia, Strasburg
and Shelbyville, Mo. He was the visiting pastor at
St. John's Lutheran Church in Decatur for many
years.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to
1946.
He was born on June 24, 1923, in St. Louis, Mo.
His parents were Isador A. and Agnes Kovacs
Goldberger. He married Lillian Ruth Moore on March
13, 1943, at Hope Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one son,
the Rev. Arthur Jack (and Kay) Goldberger II of
Bettendorf, Iowa; six daughters, Linda Loos, of The
Plains, Ohio, Susan Moore of Champaign, Kathleen
(and Peter) Bishop of West Lafayette, Ind., Patricia
(and Jim) Dermody of Monee, Laura Williams of
Lincoln and Nancy Goldberger of Chicago; 14
grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward
Goldberger. |
He was a member of the governor's Board of Elder
Abuse for four years and the Board of Seniors in
Springfield for eight years. In the Central Illinois
District of the church synod he was chairman of
family growth for 10 years and election chairman in
1968. He taught driver's safety in Lincoln and
Havana.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran School in
Lincoln.
