[October 15, 2011] (AP) Scattered showers were expected to diminish across the Northeast and Great Lakes on Saturday, while another system moved into the Plains.

A low pressure system over the Great Lakes continued moving northeastward and into eastern Canada. As the system slowly moved out of the U.S., the backside of the system was expected to push a few minor waves of low pressure over the Great Lakes and Northeast, kicking up light and scattered rain showers.

To the west, a trough of low pressure was expected to move off the northern Rockies and into the northern Plains. It was expected to strengthen as it moved to lower elevations and produce showers with a few minor thunderstorms. The system was expected to start the day over the northern Plains and move into the upper Midwest by evening. While thunderstorms may develop, severe storms were not likely.

Elsewhere in the West, a ridge of high pressure continued building over the West Coast and Rocky Mountains. This brings another warm and sunny day to the western half of the nation.

To the south, an area of low pressure over the Yucatan Peninsula was expected to continue producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Flow around this system pushed moisture over Cuba, into southern Florida and the Bahamas. The northern edge of the system may push showers over the Texas coast. While the system has a low chance of tropical cyclone development, it was expected to create moderate to heavy rainfall and flooding, which are likely to cause landslides and mudslides.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a morning low of 24 degrees at Gunnison, Colo., to a high of 93 degrees at Phoenix, Ariz.
