Morrow, a student at Carroll Catholic School, was the first-grade winner of the Lincoln Fire Department poster contest for
Fire Protection Month. Rachel received a ride to school in the
fire department's ladder truck on Friday. Her brother Luke kept
her company on the way to school. Rachel and her mother baked
cupcakes for the firemen on Thursday night to thank them for
the ride. Rachel's parents are Greg and Peggy Morrow. To see

An
Afghan security officer, center, collects evidence from the site of an attack by
militants at the gate of an American base in Panjshir province, north of Kabul,
in eastern Afghanistan. Militants tried to blast their way into the
American base on Saturday, striking before dawn with
rocket-propelled grenades and a vehicle packed with explosives. All four of the
attackers were killed, and two Afghan security guards were wounded.
