LINCOLN --
Woodrow K. Sorenson, 91, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011,
at 12:10 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor. |
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at
Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Andrew Nyren
officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m.
at the church. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday in
Camp Butler National Cemetery, with military rites
by American Legion Post 263.
Arrangements are with Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Mr. Sorenson worked as a savings and loan
examiner and retired from the Federal Home Loan
Bank. He had worked for the Great Northern Railroad
after World War II.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1946,
including the entire duration of the Battle of
Guadalcanal.
He was born on April 18, 1920, at Ambrose, N.D.
His parents were Lasse and Olga Svenning Sorenson.
He married Madeleine E. Timmermann on June 4, 1946,
in Arthur, N.D.
He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; two sons,
Leland G. (and Mary) Sorenson of Pekin and Carter
(and Becky) Sorenson of Princeton; seven
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one
sister, Medriene Plette of San Jose, Calif. |
He was also preceded in death by one brother and one
sister.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church,
Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American
Veterans, all in Lincoln.
Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran
Church.
