The Humane Society of
Logan County will provide its next transport to Animal
Protective League of Springfield for spaying and neutering on
Monday, Nov. 14. Call 217-737-4042 now to make arrangements for your
dog or cat to be spayed or neutered in November. For all dogs except
pit bulls and pit bull mixes, the fee is $55. For pits, it is
free. Male cats are $35 to neuter, female cats are $45 to spay, and
feral cats are $25. All animals must have proof of a rabies shot, or
one must be given at the time of spaying or neutering. Other
services are available at a reduced cost. |
Zion
Lutheran School in Lincoln recently hosted the annual speech
contest sponsored by the Logan County Music and Athletic
Association. There were 36 entries from Carroll Catholic School,
Mount Pulaski Grade School and Zion Lutheran. Each of the three
contest judges chose two performances from their respective rooms to
receive the Judge's Choice Award. The following four Zion entries
received these awards: Joe Ahrends, Joel Robison, Ben Steiner and
Garret Olson in small group acting; Andrew Simmer and Ethan Goodey
in duet acting; Ben Steiner and Joe Ahrends in improv duet acting;
and Ashlan Broom, Emma Cooper and Gabi Cox in small group acting.
Zion's speech team will compete at the state-level contest sponsored
by the Illinois Elementary School Association on Saturday, Oct. 29,
at Buffalo Tri-City.
Alexandra Conley has been named October Senior-of-the-Month
at Mount Pulaski High School. She is the daughter of John and Lisa
Conley of Mount Pulaski.
Alexandra is a high honor roll student. She has been involved in
student council, Scholastic Bowl, Science Olympiad and National
Honor Society. She is also a member of Spanish Club, Spirit Squad
and the yearbook staff.
In the community Alexandra has worked with the Logan Council
Animal Rescue and Special Olympics. She has participated in autism
walks and Girl Scouts.
Alexandra plans to attend Bradley University in Peoria. She will
study interactive media and has a special interest in animation.
The Senior-of-the-Month program is co-sponsored by Johnson's Food
Center and Mount Pulaski Pharmacy. Monthly winners receive $100
savings bonds and are eligible to compete for the $1,000
Senior-of-the-Year award.
The
official Halloween trick-or-treat hours for Mount Pulaski
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31. Please use caution and
only go to houses that have porch lights on.

The
Lincoln Farmer's Market is seeking vendors for their first
Holiday Market, which will be at the VFW in Lincoln on Saturday,
Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are seeking vendors who sell
farmers market-related items as well as representatives from other
companies who have stock on hand of gift items not available in
