Len Batterton

ATLANTA -- Len A. Batterton, 63, of
Atlanta, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at 12:08 p.m. at OSF St.
Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Atlanta Christian
Church. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with
Maurice Stribling officiating.
Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery. |
Arrangements are with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of
Atlanta. Mr. Batterton was a mail carrier for 41
years and worked with his dad at the Batterton
Standard Station for many years.
He served in the U.S. Army from July 1968 through
July 1971 during the Vietnam War.
He was born on Feb. 16, 1948, in Bloomington to
Leonard L. and Iona Amdor Batterton. He married his
high school sweetheart, Yaletta Young, on March 22,
1968, at Atlanta Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, of Atlanta; three
daughters, Lyn Ranea Harris of Atlanta, Laura (and
Tim) O'Donnell of Atlanta and Leigh (and Travis)
Demling of McLean; his parents, of Lincoln; nine
grandchildren, Shelby Batterton, who lived with her
grandparents for several years, Kalleigh Harris,
Nick, Drew and Zach O'Donnell, and Logan, Shane,
Gabe and Reid Demling; and one brother, Norman (and
Beth Hamlin) of Castellia, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Len graduated from Atlanta High School in 1966
and then attended Lincoln College in Lincoln. Upon
discharge from the Army, he had achieved the rank of
sergeant and served at Fort Amador in the 62nd DPU
in the Panama Canal Zone.
He was a member of American Legion Post 341 and
the Illinois Rural Mail Carriers Association. He
coached several softball teams. |
Len's wife and his children and grandchildren were
the center of his world, and he rarely missed
attending one of their events or performances. He is
irreplaceable in their lives and his absence now
will be greatly felt.
Memorials may be made to Atlanta Fire Department,
St. Jude's Midwest Affiliate in Peoria or Atlanta
Christian Church.
