ATLANTA -- Charles Warren Allen, 89, of
rural Atlanta, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at 12:22 p.m. at
Hopedale Medical Complex in Hopedale.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral
Home in Atlanta, with Ed Loyd officiating. Visitation will be for
one hour prior to the service |
Burial will be in Mountjoy Cemetery, rural Atlanta.
Military rites will be conducted by the Atlanta
American Legion post.
Mr. Allen farmed near Atlanta until he retired in
2000. He also served as the Eminence Township road
commissioner for nine years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was born on July 24, 1922, in New Holland. His
parents were Edward and Lula Allen. He married Norma
Irene Bicknell on Dec. 15, 1945.
He is survived by his wife; three children, Wanda
(and Elliott) Rogers of Armington, Wilma (and Glenn)
Leesman of Atlanta and Dale (and Christy) Allen of
Atlanta; one brother, Harry Lee Allen; one sister,
Marie Skelton of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; and
13 great-grandchildren.
Charlie joined the Army on Oct. 16, 1942. He was
a member of the 83rd Infantry Division, Coast
Artillery Corps 453rd, Antiaircraft Artillery
Battalion. He landed in Normandy on the third day of
the invasion. He attained the rank of corporal and
received two Bronze Stars for his military service.
Charlie enjoyed bird watching and fishing. He was
an avid reader as long as his eyesight would allow.
He had a great sense of humor. He loved visiting
with friends, neighbors and relatives. He was a warm
and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. |

or the Armington Fire Department.
