Monday evening the
Civil War Soldier Statue Committee closed another chapter of Logan
County history when they laid to rest the remains of the old Civil War
soldier
statue.
When the statue that
stood on the Logan County Courthouse lawn fell to the ground in
December 2008,
it broke into several pieces, some of them quite large.
A committee was formed
and a new statue erected on the same pedestal. Now, a year after
that placement, the remains of the old statue have a new permanent
home, buried in Postville Park.
The pieces were buried
Monday with a brief ceremony conducted by the committee. A
headstone-style marker will be placed at the burial site to
commemorate the significance of the statue in Logan County history.
