[July 30, 2012]  Lincoln College has announced a new scholarship that is available for the fall 2012 semester.

The scholarship was established in memory of Debra Mills Ackerman by her husband, Wayne Ackerman of Lincoln. A Clinton native and Lincoln College graduate, Debra died in May at the age of 58. She had worked at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln for 37 years as a pain management coordinator and surgical staff nurse.

"We are very grateful to the Ackerman family for their generous donation in Debra’s honor. As an institution, we feel privileged to count Debra among our alumni," said Kerri Taylor, Lincoln College coordinator of alumni relations. "During her career as a surgical nurse and in pain management, she was regarded for her dedication and compassion for her patients, professionalism and leadership.

"Lincoln College had a significant impact on Debra, and through this scholarship, that impact will be multiplied to scholarship recipients for years to come."

High school graduates who have been active members of the DeWitt County 4-H will be given first preference. If no scholarship applicant has that background, then preference will be given to students who plan to study pre-nursing at Lincoln College.
