 Expect chances of light to moderate showers to persist across much of the Northeast into the
northern Appalachians as the area of low pressure over the Great Lakes shifts eastward.
Meanwhile, a frontal boundary will extend from the southern and central Plains into the
central Gulf Coast states. Moisture pooling along this boundary will trigger showers and thunderstorms near the boundary and into the
mid-Mississippi and Ohio valleys. Areas from the mid-Mississippi Valley through the Southeast are at slight risk of severe weather development. The primary concerns with these storms are damaging wind gusts.
To the north, a pair of cold and warm fronts will move through the upper Mississippi Valley with chances of light showers.
In the West, a trough of low pressure will bring showers, cooler temperatures and strong winds to the northwestern quadrant of the nation during the next couple of days. There is a slight risk of severe storms across parts of central and northern Idaho and western and central Montana with hail and damaging wind gusts.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday have ranged from a morning low of 32 degrees at
Mount Washington, N.H., to a high of 102 degrees at Vernon, Texas.
