[June 09, 2012]  As hot laps got under way at Lincoln Speedway last night, racers were greeted with a track that was "hammer down."

John Farris, in the 90 Street Stock, started at the back of one of the heats, went on to win the heat and grabbed the feature win as well. Travis Johnson in the 18 was in hot pursuit of the 90 but just couldn't gain enough ground on Farris, even with the cautions that came out, forcing restarts. Kevin Crowder in the 15C jumped out to an early lead in his heat race. That wasn't the case for him, though, in the feature event. The 15C, in front of Johnson's 18 going into turn 4, got a little loose in the turn and spun around. Crowder was called for bringing out the yellow flag, sending him to the tail of the pack, where he ended up finishing seventh. Terry Miller, with an impressive charge to the front of the field, finished third.

"He'll have another ..." Zach Bollinger in the 77 Hornet took home the checkered flag for the second week in a row. Bollinger, who won his heat race and started on the pole of the feature, took the 77 to victory lane. Bob Sanders in the 3 finished second, and John Goveia in the 4G finished in the third position.

The Modified class saw some heavy hitters descend upon Lincoln Speedway. There were 32 Modifieds in attendance, including two past national champions, Jeff Leka in the 3L and Gary Cook Jr. in the 64. Also in attendance were Eric Bruce in the 2, along with Kevin Divley, Brian Lynn, Kelly Kovski, Guy Taylor, Matt Goulden and other Lincoln Speedway regulars.

Heat wins went to Goulden in the 41G, Leka in the 20, Bruce in the 2 and Kovski in the 10K. Blake Buchholz in the 11 took the checkered flag in the B Main but wasn't able to battle to the front in the field of stiff competition in the feature event. He finished eighth.

Leka won the feature event, making it look like he was on a Sunday drive. Cook suffered a flat tire but was unable to get it changed and back out on the track before the caution ended. Bruce, who was running the high groove, hit the wall in turn 3, suffered some damage and left the track. Goulden finished 11th but lost ground from his starting position after getting tangled up with the 29 driven by Divley as Jeremy Nichols in the 15 hit a tire, bringing out the second yellow flag. Divley would end up finishing fifth. Butch Weisser in the 25 and Allen Weisser in the 25W were using the cautions to their advantage and moved up in the field of cars to the front of the pack. Allen finished second, and his dad, Butch, finished third. Kovski finished fourth.

Evan Fink in the 1F made his way to victory lane in the Pro Late Model division. Nick Bauman in the B1 grabbed second, and Matt Beadles in the 17B took third. Fink with the checkered and Bauman in second was just how the two finished up last week at Spoon River Speedway on Saturday night. The youngster, Kolby Vandenbergh in the 15, finished fourth.

Next week the Sprint cars will be back in action at Lincoln Speedway as the MOWA Series returns to the track. For more information, visit www.lincolnspeedwayil.com.
