(AP) Scattered
thunderstorms will persist for the eastern U.S., showers and
thunderstorms move into the Plains, and heavy rains continue for
southern Florida.

 A low pressure system in eastern Canada continues pushing a cold front through the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. This system will slowly move offshore throughout the day, allowing for widespread scattered showers and thunderstorms to persist. South of this activity, an area of low pressure continues strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico. This system will bring more heavy showers and thunderstorms to southern Florida and the Gulf Coast. This system has a high, 70 percent chance of tropical cyclone development over the weekend. Expect flooding to become a problem for low areas across the region.
Meanwhile in the West, a trough of low pressure over the northern Rockies will move into the
northern Plains. This system will kick up scattered showers and thunderstorms from the Dakotas through the
upper Midwest, some of which may turn severe with strong winds and large hail. In the Southwest, high pressure keeps the Southwest hot and dry. With the system passing through the
northern Rockies, high winds will develop over the Great Basin, central Rockies and Southwest. These conditions in combination will maintain dangerous fire weather conditions for the region. The Pacific Northwest will see light and widespread rain showers as onshore flow persists. Expect cloudy skies and cool conditions to continue for most of Washington, Oregon and northern California. |
