Friday's D.A.R.E. pizza party at the Lincoln Park District brought in about 200 sixth-grade students.

These are all students whose schools participate in the D.A.R.E. programs administered by either the Lincoln Police Department or the Logan County sheriff's office.

One of the primary purposes of the D.A.R.E. programs is to show young people that they can have fun, be cool and have great friends without using drugs or alcohol.

The program throughout the school year brings officers into the various classrooms to discuss drug and alcohol abuse and how to say no to those who might try to influence young people to abuse these products.
