Johnson began his retailing career in 1984 as a trainee with Mervyns, the now defunct retailer that was formerly owned by The Dayton Hudson Corp. During his time at Mervyns, he spent half of his time working in the men's clothing department. FAVORITE DEPARTMENT STORE GROWING UP: Dayton's at the Southdale Mall in Edina, Minn., where Johnson's family bought their first color TV. QUOTE: "Throughout my life, I have always had this deep desire to do things that matter."
