When a firefighter puts on all his gear, he can be pretty strange-looking, even frightening for a child. This month the Lincoln Fire Department will visit all the elementary schools in the city and talk to children about fire safety. Among the important lessons they hope to teach is that a firefighter is not someone to be afraid of during a fire. The department kicked off Fire Safety Month with a breakfast at the firehouse Monday morning for the third-graders of Chester-East Lincoln. Each year the department selects a different school to invite as their special guests for the morning. Photo by Nila Smith (Click on photo for larger image.) |
