Whitney Port inspired by crown jewels for spring

[September 14, 2012]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Whitney Port turned to the crown jewels of London in prints that evoked precious stones, crystals and rock formations in gray, greens and a broad range of blues, from sky to, well, jewel.

Solid white blazers and loose shorts offset the show of color in dresses and lightweight cigarette pants for the spring collection of her Whitney Eve line. She used light black and gray that way as well, including her finale look, a long dress of fringe panels that shimmied Wednesday as hectic Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week wound down.

The actress who rose to prominence on MTV's reality show "The Hills," earning her own spinoff, "The City," launched the Whitney Port label in 2008, making use of masculine tailoring with a feminine aesthetic.

The movement of her fringe pieces caught the light just right at the Lincoln Center tents. They also came in chocolate on a sweater worn over a muted orange diamond print shirt dress with matching trousers, and in white tops.

There were knife pleats and asymmetrical peplums on dresses above the knee and a long skirt in a muted smudge print of pink and teal.

A barely pink cardigan with small pom poms was paired with a more geometric diamond print in taupe leggings. The same pom pom knit was used for a cropped sweater in white with a round neck.
