Economic
downturns have placed an additional burden on
some families who now have to turn to the
Lincoln-Logan County Food Pantry to
supplement what they are able to purchase.
"In 2010, for the month of January, we served
1,278 people. In January of 2012, that number
rose to 1,825 people," says Bill Overton, the
pantry manager.

LDN - Entertainment
This April 18 file photo
shows actor Kirk Douglas, left, and his wife, Anne Douglas,
arriving at the Entertainment Industry Foundation's
"Unforgettable Evening" in Beverly Hills, Calif. Kirk Douglas
has doubled his Los Angeles Skid Row pledge for homeless women
to $10 million -- surprising even his wife, for whom the effort
is named. Kirk and Anne Douglas made the initial $5 million
pledge in July for continued support of the Anne Douglas Center
for Women at the Los Angeles Mission, which opened two decades
ago on Valentine's Day. The 95-year-old actor also gave his wife
an award Wednesday for her work. Kirk Douglas says his wife told
him when they married 57 years ago that she was determined to do something for her country, and he says she has never stopped.
