LINCOLN -- Gladys Emma Boerma, 90, who
resided at the Christian Village of Lincoln and formerly of
Hartsburg, died at 12:12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013.

Hartsburg- Gladys Emma Boerma, 90, who resided at
the Christian Village of Lincoln, IL and formerly of
Hartsburg, died at 12:12 P.M. on Friday October 18,
2013. Mrs. Boerma was born November 27, 1922 to
William and Ella Reiners Kaesebier in Emden, IL. She
was a homemaker and farmed with her husband, John,
who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in
death by her son, Norman.
Mrs. Boerma graduated from Hartsburg-Emden High
School in 1940 and later served on the school board
there for many years. She was also an active member
of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Emden, IL where
she taught Sunday School and served as president of
the Ladies Aid.
Mrs. Boerma presided as president of the Logan
County National Farmer's Organization for several
years. She also served on the Prairie Creek Drainage
District and was a precinct committee person for the
Democratic Party for Orvil Township.
Surviving Mrs. Boerma are her children Jean (Kent)
Sunderland of Bloomington, IL, William (Maralee)
Boerma of Emden, IL, Sally (Fred) Ananias of Dunlap,
IL, and Brenda (Billy) Barney of Wagoner, OK.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren including
Nathan (Mary) Sunderland of Poquoson, VA, Jenna
Sunderland of Sherman, IL, Sheila (Marc) Erickson of
Rockford, IL, Brian (Sara) Boerma of Hopedale, IL,
Britney Boerma of Lincoln, IL, Jason (Traci) Ananias
of Greenville, SC, Jonathan (Jennifer) Ananias of
Dunlap, IL, Joe (Christina) Ananias of Mt. Pleasant,
SC, and Drew Barney of Wagoner, OK. Two step
grandchildren surviving are Tammy Barney of Wagoner,
OK, and Jason Barney of Tulsa, OK.
Great-grandchildren surviving Mrs. Boerma are
William Boerma and Kelly Sunderland.
One sister-in-law, Doris Boerma of Emden, IL and
eight nieces and nephews also survive.
Gladys enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, and
singing with her family. She will be remembered for
her faith and love of family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on
Saturday, October 26, 2013 at St. Peter's Lutheran
Church in Emden, IL with Pastor John Schurter and
Ryan Edgecomb officiating. Visitation will be from 5
P.M. to 8 P.M. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the
Church and also one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in rural Emden.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church
or the Christian Village of Lincoln. Services have
been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln, IL.
