LCU fell behind early but made a heroic effort to come back
from a 15-point first-half deficit. The last 6 1/2
minutes of the half saw the Red Lions go on a 20-point
unanswered streak that sent them into the locker room with a
34-31 lead. In the second half, the Cougars fought slowly back into the
lead. It took Kuyper 16 minutes to stretch out a five-point
deficit for the home team. Turns out it was just a stop along
the way toward the final nine-point difference as the Red Lions
fell 79-70.
Despite the loss, LCU saw standout performances from sophomore
guard Anthony Rush (Peoria/Illinois Central College), who had
14 points and eight rebounds, and senior guard Blake Saathoff (Bruce,
S.D./Estelline High) with 10 points and seven rebounds. LCU's next home game is also a makeup game with Kuyper College.
The Red Lions women's team will play host to the Lady Cougars on
Tuesday, with a 5 p.m. start time. [Text from file
