Mason City woman dies in car crash near Elkhart

[June 03, 2014]  MASON CITY - On May 19, at 5:27 p.m. the Logan County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash at 200th Ave and 500th St. The location is country-side, southwest of Elkhart nearing access to Interstate 55.

Katie L. Beckman, 23, of Mason City was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile. She was the single occupant of the vehicle.

According to Chief Deputy John Bunner a witness said that Beckman was driving at a high rate of speed when she drove through the intersection. She hit the rise in the intersection and lost control of the vehicle. It went into a ditch and rolled several times.

Beckman was taken to Memorial Medical Center where she died at 6:33 p.m. from injuries sustained in the crash.

Beckman was a mom and a student at Midwest Technical Institute in Springfield, IL.
