attendees to learn rocket launch planning at Heartland

–Participants in Heartland’s upcoming Rocket Girls camp will
enjoy personal coaching from Karolyn Young, Principal Director at
The Aerospace Corporation. During her visit to HCC, she will teach
about the importance of setting and attaining goals during a rocket
launch - lessons girls can apply to their present and future
aspirations.

Young is scheduled to speak at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23 at the
Challenger Learning Center on Heartland’s Normal campus, 1500 W.
Raab Road.
A graduate of the University of Michigan, Young holds B.S and M.S.
degrees in Aerospace Engineering. In her role at The Aerospace
Corporation, Young plans rocket launches and supports strategies
related to the design, test, operation and procurement of launch
systems. She is also an instructor at The Aerospace Institute and
guest lecturer at the Air Force Institute of Technology and
Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
Young received the Emerald Honors Award for Professional Achievement
from the U.S. Black Engineer and Technology magazine in 2011. In
2013, she was the recipient of the Aerospace Corporation’s Herndon
Black Image Award.

About Rocket Girls Camp
Heartland’s Rocket Girls runs June 23-26 and teaches
girls in grades 4-8 about STEM (science, technology, engineering and
math) careers. With the theme of Engineer Your Future Adventure,
attendees will engage in a variety of hands-on activities, such as
engineering challenges, computer programming, a space launch and
do-it-yourself projects.
