Blue Jays 9, Yankees 3
Adam Lind homered and drove in four runs, and right-hander Marcus
Stroman pitched eight strong innings in his longest major league
outing as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 8-3.
Stroman (4-2) allowed three hits, including a home run by Yankees
first baseman Mark Teixeira, one walk and one run while equaling his
season best with seven strikeouts.
Lind, the Blue Jays' designated hitter, had an RBI single and a
three-run homer. Until Monday, he was limited to three appearances
as a pinch hitter, going 2-for-3.
Catcher Dioner Navarro was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for the
Blue Jays (43-35), who handed the Yankees (39-36) their third
straight loss and extended their American League East lead over New
York to 2 1/2 games.

Orioles 6, White Sox 4
Chris Davis belted a three-run pinch-hit homer with one out in the
bottom of the ninth inning to give the Baltimore Orioles a 6-4
victory over the Chicago White Sox.
The White Sox took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth before
Davis blasted a 3-2 pitch into the seats in right field to give the
Orioles a dramatic victory.
The Orioles (40-35) have won three straight games, while Chicago
(35-42) has dropped five in a row.

Pirates 8, Rays 1
Starling Marte and reigning National League MVP Andrew McCutchen
combined to score four runs, knock in two more and tied a
season-high by stealing three bases in the Pittsburgh Pirates' 8-1
rout of the Tampa Bay Rays.
The hard-hitting sprinters were central in Pittsburgh's first two
scoring innings, which effectively settled the game by the third as
Pittsburgh evened its record at 38-38 as the Rays (31-47) remained
baseball's worst team.
Edinson Volquez (5-6) allowed a run on five hits in eight innings.

Marlins 4, Phillies 0
Nathan Eovaldi and four relievers combined on a six-hitter, and the
Miami Marlins blanked the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0.
Third baseman Casey McGehee doubled home two runs in the first for
Miami, which won for just the second time in six games.
Pinch hitter Reed Johnson and second baseman Derek Dietrich
contributed RBI singles in a two-run ninth. Philadelphia dropped its
third straight.

Royals 5, Dodgers 3
Jeremy Guthrie pitched superbly into the eighth inning, catcher
Salvador Perez homered and doubled, and the Kansas City Royals
snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the Los Angeles Dodgers
5-3.
Royals center fielder Jarrod Dyson finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, a
run and two stolen bases.
Guthrie, who won his third consecutive start, was pulled with two
outs in the eighth after designated hitter Hanley Ramirez's double
scored third baseman Miguel Rojas and pinch hitter Justin Turner,
both whom singled earlier in the inning.
Guthrie (5-6) was charged with two runs on seven hits while walking
none and striking out five.

Nationals 3, Brewers 0
Left-hander Gio Gonzalez threw six shutout innings and first baseman
Adam LaRoche hit his ninth home run of the season to lead the
Washington Nationals to a 3-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers were held to three hits and four walks and struck out
five times against Gonzalez, who earned his first victory since
April 18.
Washington won its third game in a row on LaRoche's third inning
blast and moved 2 1/2 games ahead of idle Atlanta for first place in
the National League East.

Cardinals 8, Rockies 0
St Louis Cardinals' right-hander Lance Lynn held the Colorado
Rockies to three singles in eight innings as the Cardinals romped
home 8-0.
Matt Adams backed Lynn with two homers and drove in a career-high
six runs, while the starter issued no walks and struck out seven.
Lynn (8-5) gave up a one-out single in the first to Corey Dickerson
and then retired 16 straight batters until Charlie Blackmon singled
with two out in the sixth.

Reds 6, Cubs 1
Billy Hamilton drove in Chris Heisey with a go-ahead single in the
ninth inning before a Devin Mesoraco grand slam sealed the
Cincinnati Reds 6-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Hamilton, who went 2-for-5 and scored two run, skipped a base hit up
the middle to drive in Heisey from second with what proved to be the
winning run off Cubs reliever Hector Rondon (1-2).
Rondon then loaded the bases for Mesoraco, and the Reds catcher
launched a 1-0 pitch into the left field basket for his second grand
slam of the season.
Mesoraco homered for a fourth consecutive game.

Marlins 12, Red Sox 3
First baseman Logan Morrison hit two home runs and drove in four
runs during a 4-for-4 night to help starting pitcher Felix Hernandez
earn his first win in four starts by way of a 12-3 victory over the
Boston Red Sox.
Hernandez (9-2) allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings of
work to earn his first win since June 2.
Seattle had five of its 14 hits during a six-run fourth inning that
blew the game open and chased Boston starter John Lackey (8-5) from
the game.

Padres 6, Giants 0
Cuban native Odrisamer Despaigne tossed seven scoreless innings in
his major league debut, and first baseman Tommy Medica's two-run
double provided the big blow the San Diego Padres needed in a 6-0
victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Despaigne required only 86 pitches to negotiate the seven innings.
He surrendered four hits and no walks, and he struck out one.
He retired the first 10 hitters he faced, not allowing a runner
until Giants right fielder Hunter Pence dumped a double into
right-center with one out in the fourth inning.
