[March 03, 2014]  Center Brandon Pirri took a big step backward in the standings Sunday when he was traded from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Florida Panthers in exchange for two draft picks.

The Blackhawks own the second-best record in the NHL, while the Panthers are tied for the third-worst mark.

Chicago will receive a third-round pick in this year's draft and a fifth-rounder in 2016.

"Brandon is a young and talented player who we are extremely pleased to have acquired," Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said in a statement. "He has experienced tremendous success on the American Hockey League level, being named MVP of the All-Star game and winning the league's scoring title. Pirri further adds to our depth at center along with Aleksander Barkov, Nick Bjugstad and Drew Shore. We look forward to his contributions to our team."

Pirri, 22, played 28 games for Chicago this season, recording six goals and five assists. He also played 25 games for AHL Rockford, posting 10 goals and 14 assists.

Pirri appeared in a total of seven games with the Blackhawks the previous three seasons, collecting two assists.
