May 18 (The Sports Xchange) - The
New Orleans Saints signed wide receiver Brandin Cooks, the number 20
overall draft pick, to a four-year contract, the team announced Sunday.
|
Cooks reportedly will receive a signing bonus of $4.4 million,
with the deal expected to be worth around $8.4 million.
Cooks, 20, was selected by the Saints in the first round of the NFL
Draft out of Oregon State.
It marked the seventh time in franchise history the Saints have
selected a wideout in the first round. Cooks was the 2013
Biletnikoff winner, honoring the nation's top wide receiver.

Baltimore Ravens running back Bernard Pierce is out until training
camp as he recovers from shoulder surgery.
Pierce is the backup to Ray Rice, who could face a suspension from
the NFL stemming from a aggravated assault charge. While Rice
pleaded not guilty earlier this month and likely will not face a
trial or jail time, the league could still discipline him.
Pierce has rushed for 968 yards and three touchdowns in his first
two NFL seasons.

The Atlanta Falcons signed five of their 2014 draft picks,
linebackers Prince Shembo, Marquis Spruill, Yawin Smallwood and
Tyler Starr and cornerback Ricardo Allen.
According to ESPN.com, seventh-round pick Smallwood received a
four-year deal that included a signing bonus of $45,896 and base
salaries of $420,000, $510,000, $600,000, and $690,000. Terms for
the other signed players were not immediately available.

and waived wide receiver Greg Moore.

touchdowns in 43 games.
- - - The Cleveland Browns named Aaron Glenn assistant defensive backs
coach.
Glenn is in his first year as an NFL assistant coach after 15
seasons as a player and two as a scout. He spent the past two
seasons in the New York Jets' front office, serving as a college
area scout in 2013 after one season as a pro personnel scout.
