Obituary
CYNTHIA ALDENDIFER
“An Intelligent, Classy, Witty Lady” 8/8/1936 –
10/4/2014
Cynthia Clow Aldendifer, a longtime resident of
Rancho Mirage, CA, passed away peacefully on October
4, 2014, at the age of 78 while surrounded by her
loving family.
Cynthia lived a full and fascinating life! Born in
Great Bend, Kansas on August 8, 1936 to George and
Geraldine Clow, Cynthia spent her early years in
Kansas and Oklahoma. In 1958 she graduated with
honors in arts & science from Oklahoma State
University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Following her
graduation, she worked as a flight attendant for
Continental Airlines during the golden age of
commercial aviation. While with Continental
Airlines, she met and later married her pilot
husband, Capt. Joseph R. Aldendifer, on February 2,
1967. When Joe retired in 1976, Cynthia contributed
her management skills to help him and several other
retired pilots introduce and operate a beverage
distributorship in Micronesia, leading to many
interesting adventures and travels to the South
Pacific.
Highly creative, Cynthia was an accomplished artist
for over 50 years, using her talent to paint and
create in many different art styles. She was a very
social person and could have an engaging
conversation with anyone. Her intellect,
sophistication, and dry wit endeared her to others.
She was comfortable in any environment and with any
group of people, which brought wonderful friends
into her life and the opportunity to meet many
famous and influential individuals. |
Cynthia and Joe in their later years, spent their
time in Rancho Mirage and Lincoln, Illinois. When
Joe passed away Cynthia made her primary residence
Rancho Mirage, CA.
Cynthia was also a mother, grandmother, and sister.
She is survived by her son Curtis E. Aldendifer of
Raleigh, NC, stepson Joseph R. Aldendifer III of
Corona, CA, stepson James E. Aldendifer of
Nashville, TN, three grandchildren, one
great-grandchild, and her sister Harriet Suri of
Moody, TX.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on
Sunday, 10/19/14, at the Mirage Inn, 72750 Country
Club in Rancho Mirage, CA, where family and friends
are invited to remember and celebrate Cynthia’s
extraordinary life. Interment will be at Old Union
Cemetery at a later date. Holland Barry & Bennett
Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.
