Peterson was deactivated by the Vikings for this past Sunday's
game on Friday following an indictment by a grand jury on charges of
reckless or negligent injury to a child, who is his 4-year-old son.
Peterson was booked into Montgomery County (Texas) jail Saturday and
was released after posting $15,000 bond.
Peterson will make his first court appearance Wednesday in Conroe,
Texas on the child abuse charge. He is expected to enter a plea at
the hearing.
Peterson released a statement Monday saying that he "very much"
wants to share his story with the public, but that he's limited
about what he can say about a pending court matter.
---Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will be placed
in a hard cast for two weeks and re-evaluated after extensive tests
showed his dislocated ankle was not fractured.
Conflicting reports emerged Monday that pegged Grififn's absence
from between four weeks and 12 weeks.
---Defensive end Greg Hardy could be back on the field for the
Carolina Panthers this week, but head coach Ron Rivera said the team
continues to gather information before determining his status for
Week 3.
Rivera said the decision to deactivate Hardy for Sunday's game was
his alone, but others were involved and Hardy was disappointed but
said he understood the reasoning behind it. Hardy was arrested for
assaulting a woman and communicating threats in May and was found
guilty in July. He is appealing for a jury trial.
---NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who continues to come under fire
for his handling of the Ray Rice suspension, announced the promotion
and hiring of four women to help the league with domestic violence
and other social issues.
Anna Isaacson, the NFL's vice president of community affairs and
philanthropy, was promoted to the new role, which will oversee
education, training and support programs relating to domestic
violence, sexual assault and matters of respect.
The league also has retained as senior advisors Lisa Friel, the
former head of the Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit in the New York
County District Attorney's Office, NO MORE co-founder Jane Randel
and Rita Smith, the former executive director of the National
Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
---Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green's toe injury is not
likely to be a long-term injury, coach Marvin Lewis said.
NFL.com reported earlier in the day Green is likely to return after
the team's Week 4 bye, at the latest.
---Arizona Cardinals linebacker John Abraham, who left the team
after suffering a concussion in the season opener, will return to
practice this week.
Head coach Bruce Arians said Abraham will work toward getting
cleared from his recent concussion.
---Miami Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno (dislocated left
elbow) is expected to miss at least four weeks.
Backup running back Lamar Miller (right ankle) left the stadium in a
walking boot and his status for this week's game against Kansas City
is unknown.

---Chicago Bears cornerback Charles Tillman is expected to be placed
on season-ending injury reserve with what could be a
career-threatening triceps injury.

dislocated toes on his left foot that likely will sideline him the
rest of the season.
---St. Louis Rams wide receiver Tavon Austin might be out for two
weeks with a sprained medial collateral ligament.
However, Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said the injury to Austin was a
mild sprain, and added, "We have not ruled him out for this
weekend."
---San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews has a sprained MCL
in his right knee and could miss four to five weeks, multiple media
outlets reported.
---Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis will miss six to
eight weeks with a high-ankle sprain.
Rookie wide receiver Allen Hurns is listed as day-to-day due to an
ankle sprain suffered against Washington.
---New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram is expected to miss
about a month due to a hand injury he suffered in Week 2, ESPN
reported.
---Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel, who had four
interceptions in Sunday's 30-7 loss to the New England Patriots,
will remain the starter, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.
--- Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles suffered a
sprained ankle in the 24-17 loss to the Denver Broncos, ESPN.com
reported. Charles' return will be determined by how he feels moving
on the ankle during the week.
--The New York Giants have lost defensive back Walter Thurmond for
the season with a torn pectoral muscle. He is scheduled to have
surgery on Tuesday.
