Nationals 4, Braves 2
Right-hander Stephen Strasburg threw seven scoreless innings to help
Washington to a win over the Atlanta Braves and reduce the
Nationals' magic number for winning the National League East to two.
The Nationals (86-63) could clinch their second division title in
three years by beating Atlanta on Tuesday.
Atlanta (75-75) have lost four successive games.
Strasburg (12-11) allowed five hits, did not walk a batter and
struck out seven. He also drove in a run with a single in the
seventh.
Atlanta starter Ervin Santana (14-9) threw six solid innings,
allowing two runs on three hits and two walks, with six strikeouts.

Royals 4, White Sox 3
Kansas City rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to come back
from a 3-0 deficit and keep pace in their division race.
The Royals (82-67) scored runs in the seventh and eighth innings to
pull within 3-2, then beat Chicago reliever Jake Petricka in the
ninth where they tied the score on a wild pitch and won on Lorenzo
Cain's infield single.
Norichika Aoki went 4-for-4 for the Royals who stayed 1-1/2 games
behind first-place Detroit in the American League Central.

Orioles 5, Blue Jays 2
Ryan Flaherty hit a two-run homer and Nelson Cruz and Adam Jones
each drove in a run as the Baltimore Orioles clinched at least a tie
for the American League East title with a victory over the Toronto
Blue Jays.
The victory reduced Baltimore's magic number to one over the Jays
(77-72). One more win for the Orioles (90-60) would clinch their
first division title in 17 years.
Baltimore starter Wei-Yin Chen (16-4) struggled through a 26-pitch
first inning in which he gave up a run, but he still lasted 5-2/3
innings.

Marlins 6, Mets 5
Rookie right-hander Jacob deGrom tied a modern record by striking
out the first eight batters he faced but didn't factor into the
decision after the New York Mets blew a pair of two-run leads in a
loss to the Miami Marlins.
The Marlins scored three runs in each of the seventh and eighth
innings.

Rays 1, Yankees 0
Ben Zobrist's RBI single to right field off reliever Shawn Kelley
broke up a scoreless pitcher's duel in the bottom of the ninth
inning as the Tampa Bay Rays walked off with a win over the New York
Yankees.
Rays starter Alex Colome shut down the Yankees for 6-2/3 innings,
and relievers Steve Geltz, Jeff Beliveau and Kirby Yates got the
Rays to the ninth inning.
Joel Peralta pitched a scoreless frame, setting up the Rays'
walk-off rally.
The Yankees, who entered the game five games behind the Kansas City
Royals in the American League wild card standings, fell to 76-73.

Tigers 8, Twins 6
Detroit Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter and first baseman Miguel
Cabrera hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the top of the ninth,
leading the Tigers to a win over the Twins.
The Tigers had blown a 6-0 lead before the homers.
Cabrera finished with three hits and Hunter had two as Detroit kept
their 1-1/2 game lead in the American League Central.
Detroit starter Max Scherzer (16-5) pitched seven innings and
allowed four runs in a no-decision.

Cubs 1, Reds 0
First baseman Anthony Rizzo clubbed a walk-off solo home run in the
ninth inning to lead the Chicago Cubs to a victory over the
Cincinnati Reds.
The homer was Rizzo's 31st of the season and came in his first game
back after a nearly three-week absence with back tightness.

Astros 3, Indians 1
Collin McHugh did not issue a walk for the fourth consecutive start
and Jose Altuve recorded three hits in the Houston Astros' win over
the Cleveland Indians.
McHugh (10-9) pitched into the seventh inning before taking a line
drive off his left wrist and being replaced.

Angels 8, Mariners 1
The Los Angeles Angels beat Seattle but saw injuries to two key
players.
Albert Pujols hit a three-run double in the third inning but he
limped off clutching his hamstring that was later diagnosed as cramp
and not a strain. His status will be re-evaluated Tuesday.
Angels' pitcher Matt Shoemaker, who took a shutout into the eighth
inning appeared to injure himself on a ground ball up the middle by
the Mariners' Humberto Quintero and had to come out of the game.
There was no initial diagnosis given.

Diamondbacks 6, Giants 2
Arizona first baseman Mark Trumbo hit a grand slam and drove in five
runs, and Diamondbacks left-hander Wade Miley beat the San Francisco
Giants for third time this season.
First baseman Joaquin Arias had three hits and a run, and second
baseman Joe Panik had two hits and a run for the Giants (82-68). San
Francisco trail the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West
by four games with 12 to play.
The Giants lead the Pittsburgh Pirates by 2-1/2 games and the
Milwaukee Brewers by four games in the race for the two NL wild-card
spots.

Dodgers 11, Rockies 3
The Los Angeles Dodgers broke the game open with an eight-run sixth
inning to rout Colorado.
Adrian Gonzalez drove in three runs, giving him the National League
lead with 106 RBIs, one more than injured Miami slugger Giancarlo
Stanton.
Right fielder Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer while shortstop Hanley
Ramirez and pinch-hitter Jacob Turner each had two RBIs, and third
baseman Juan Uribe had three of the Dodgers' 15 hits.

Padres 1, Phillies 0
Andrew Cashner threw the third shutout of his career as the San
Diego Padres defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
Cashner (4-7) allowed two hits and a walk while striking out seven.
The winning pitcher also had a hand in the game's lone run. Padres
catcher Rene Rivera doubled in the second inning and scored when
Phillies third baseman Cody Asche failed to field Cashner's sharp
two-out grounder for an error.
