The Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday activated closer Jonathan Papelbon from his seven-game suspension for making an obscene gesture on the mound earlier this month.

Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said he planned to use Papelbon in save situations during the final week of the regular season.

The 33-year-old Papelbon grabbed his crotch and gestured toward Phillies fans during a Sept. 14 game. He then had a physical run-in with umpire Joe West.

Before the suspension, Papelbon appeared in 64 games and had finished 50 this year. He has 37 saves and a 2-3 record with a 2.10 ERA.

---The New York Mets confirmed Tuesday a three-year contract extension for general manager Sandy Alderson through the 2017 season and the return of manager Terry Collins next year.

In four seasons under the direction of Alderson and Collins, the Mets have a 301-341 record.

The Mets also announced that right-hander Jacob deGrom will not pitch during the final week of the season after going 9-6 with a 2.63 ERA in 140 1/3 innings as a rookie.

---The jersey worn by Mo'ne Davis at the Little League World Series is headed to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Davis, who in August became the fourth girl to pitch in the Little League World Series and the first to win a game, donated her jersey from the Taney Hill Little League team in Philadelphia to be preserved among the game's treasures.

Davis and her teammates from Taney Hill and the travel team she plays on will visit the Hall of Fame on Thursday in Cooperstown, N.Y., and then play a game against a local team form Stanford, N.Y., at historic Doubleday Field. The 13-year-old will present her jersey to Hall of Fame president Jeff Idelson in a ceremony. Also in attendance will be Mamie "Peanut" Johnson, a former pitcher who is one of only three women to play in the Negro Leagues.

---The Atlanta Braves will shut down left-hander Mike Minor for the rest of the season because of a sore shoulder.

Minor (6-12) was able to complete only one inning in his last start on Sept. 20 against the New York Mets. Right-hander David Hale (4-4) will take Minor's turn in the rotation on Thursday.

---Johan De Jesus, a minor league third baseman in the Pittsburgh Pirates'' organization, was suspended for 72 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
