Culinary Arts is divided into specific groups, and there is
something for everyone of any age.
Entry forms are due by July 29th at 4:30 p.m. Entries may be made at
the Logan County Fair office, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30
p.m.
While at the office there are also 2015 Fair Books available. Be
sure to pick one up.
This year again, there will be a lunch box judging, open to children
ages five years to eight years old. Open to boys and girls, the
entry is to be a decorated shoe box that reflects this year’s theme
“Summer Fun.”
This year the first place winner will receive a special gift
courtesy of Gail’s Pumpkin Patch. All entries will receive Dairy
Queen gift certificates. Bags of farm and agriculture-related items
such as coloring books, pencils and more are being provided by the
Logan County Farm Bureau Woman’s Committee.
In the chocolate cake with chocolate frosting class, all youth
entries between the ages of 10 and 19 years old will receive a
monetary award in memory of Christy Piat.
Sorrento’s in Lincoln will award a gift certificate to the Best of
Show in the Oatmeal cookie category in the youth ages nine to 15
years old group.
A memorial plaque will be presented to the best quick bread entry in
memory of Darla Runyon.
A memorial plaque will be presented to the best yeast bread in
memory of Margaret Osborn.
“What’s the Buzz all about” will be a class for honey cookies.
Sasse’s Apiary will present a prize to the best Honey Cookie. For
bakers who don’t normally use or don’t have a honey cookie recipe, a
simple solution is to substitute ¾-cup of sugar in the recipe with
½-cup of honey and use ¼-cup less liquid in the recipe.
In the canning category, prizes will be given by the Apple Dental
Center and Lincoln IGA.

The Candy and Snack Food Best of Show winners will be presented awards by Sonnie
Alexander of Coldwell Banker Cornerstone in Lincoln.
Wilton Enterprises will provide the prizes for all the decorated cake winners.
On the day of judging, to prevent waste, the food products that do not win
awards may be picked up by the entrant after the judging. The exceptions to this
will be the canned goods, decorated cakes, and the lunch box classes, as those
items will remain on display throughout the fair week.
Judging will take place on Wednesday and Friday. On Wednesday will be the pies,
bread, cookies, and canned foods judging. The judging will begin at 10 a.m.
Friday will be the cake and candy judging. Judging will take place at 11:30, and
again at 2 p.m. Top finishers in each of the cake categories will be invited to
participate in the Cake Classic on Sunday.
The superintendent for the Dairy and Culinary Arts is Mary Ellen Martin with
