“The Life and Times of Logan County Mammals” rescheduled for June 6

[May 30, 2015]  The Elkhart Historical Society announces the rescheduled dinner lecture, “The Life and Times of Logan County Mammals”, to be given at 5:30 p.m., on Saturday June 6, 2015 by Dr. Dennis Campbell.

The original lecture was postponed due to the funeral of President Abraham Lincoln (or at least its re-enactment.) The dinner choices from the Wild Hare Café at Horsefeathers in Elkhart are Chicken Cordon Bleu or Beef Bourguignon. Reservations should be made by calling 217-947-2238, and the dinner menu and order form can be downloaded from the web site www.elkharthistoricalsociety.org.  As space is limited, please make your reservations promptly as none will be accepted after June 1.

Dr. Campbell’s talk will cover three major time periods from far gone eras when wooly mammoths and perhaps an occasional sabre tooth tiger roamed, to the 1800’s during Abraham Lincoln’s life, when not only wolves but an occasional timber rattlers could visit. The final era is now and what still remains and may in fact be returning to the wilds of Logan County.

Dr. Campbell, who has taught at Lincoln College for twenty-two years offering courses in both life and earth sciences, holds bachelor and master degrees from Texas Tech University and a doctorate in zoology from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. He is also the director of the Creekside Center for Environmental Education, a new offering through Lincoln College’s Biology Department.
