On
Monday evening, Street Superintendent for the city
of Lincoln, Walt Landers, announced this year's
Arbor Day Poster Contest winners. There were 185
entries this year representing all the elementary
schools in Lincoln. First place went to Ivy Sandel.
Ivy (left) is a student at Northwest School, and her
parents are Isreal and Sarah Sandel. Second place
was awarded to Grace Carter. Grace is a student at
Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln and the daughter of
Samantha Carter. The third place prize went to
Gabriel Smith, a student at Washington Monroe
School. Gabriel was not present to accept his award.
The winners were given a variety of prizes provided
by local businesses.

The Factory Connection, located
next door to Radio Shack, opened Saturday, May 30th. Store
hours Monday through Saturday are 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. and
Sunday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. on. The retailer carries women's
clothing and accessories for juniors, misses, plus size, and
men’s wear as well. It offers name brands at discounted
prices. Pictured on the left is Shailo Doyle, local store
manager, and Michelle Alumbaugh, area manager. There are
currently over 300 stores in 10 states.

- To celebrate its volunteers, Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital recently hosted a spring recognition luncheon at
the America Legion in Lincoln. Over 100 volunteers were
celebrated in observance of National Healthcare Volunteers
Week. Shirley Dittus, was the highlight of the
recognitions with 60 years of volunteerism to ALMH.
Shirley is pictured center with Lynn Metz and Dolan Dalpoas
at each side.

Thursday evening, the Lincoln Heat 10U split a pair with
Morton. The first game was a runaway for the heat as
they started out scoring 11 runs in the first three
innings, defeating Morton 17-1. Morton fought back hard
in the second game and narrowly defeated the 10U with a
final score of 9-8.
